I LOVE this time of year. ..
the anticipation,
the dreams,
the wonder,
the excitement,
the energy,
the determination,
the will...
Seldom does one find all of this so perfectly bundled together at any other time of the year.
I am crazy excited about the plans I have deliberately put together and cannot wait to see the beautiful results that will come from the energy I WILL be attaching to them.
Every area of my life I have spent effort and prayer as I have focused on what is thriving and what is dying...FOCUS and INTENTION are key for me.
Sooooo ready for the beautiful story 2015 is sure to tell!

Be in the Moment...
As the month
of January closes, three thoughts come to mind that I’d like to share with you.
·
Wherever
you are, Be There.
·
I
get to!
·
Let
go of “that”…
Wherever you
are, be there.
I have been
striving to BE IN THE MOMENT, to really
be where I am, in presence and in
heart. There are times that we are
physically present with our kids or our spouses, but our minds, our thoughts,
and our attention wander elsewhere. I don’t want to miss out on the things that
are right in front of me and I realize that those who are most important in my
life deserve my full attention when I am with them. This is applicable in ALL situations of our
lives. Wherever you are, whatever you
are doing, with whomever you are engaged…be there, FULLY.
I get to!
This thought is a big one for me.
Years ago, I watched as the health of a dear friend of mine deteriorated
until the disease she had been stricken with took her life much too soon. I can still hear her voice as she answered a
question I had posed to her as she sat in her wheelchair one afternoon. My question had been a simple one, inquiring
of what was most difficult for her and how I could help. Her response touched me in a way I had not
expected and has forever changed my heart.
She had one little boy that she adored, with the progression of her
disease, her days of playing with him had changed. As she pondered my question, her eyes looked
upward, a smile crossed her face and then a tear welled in the corner of her
eye as she told me how much she missed being able to sit on the floor and play
with her little one. She still did all
she could with and for him, but life had changed for her.
For the next several weeks, I rolled on the
floor with my babies, I played Legos and Barbie’s every time I was asked; I was
consumed with the time I had taken for granted and wished to capture every
second of the time I had with my beautiful children.
I also changed my thought
pattern…I get to make breakfast for my kids, I don’t have to. I get to take them here and there and
everywhere, I don’t have to. I get
to do math with 5 or 6 kids all at the same time while they are all at
differing levels, I don’t have to…I made this choice and I get to! Having this pattern of thought helps me to be
more grateful and aware of the blessings that surround me.
Let go of that…
“That” being anything you
cannot control, change or fix.
Why hold onto these things
any longer? Let them go…let the
happiness and the peace in. We already
hold so many things that we are responsible for, allowing ourselves to let the
things go that just weigh us down unnecessarily is a gift we owe to ourselves.
My hope for each of you is
that you focus on the things that bring joy to your lives. Wishing you a month filled with magical
moments!

#NaPhoPoMo Day 25...Amazing Co-Op Kiddos!
* * * Day 25 * * *
is the perfect day to say just how much
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE AND ADORE
all the kids that join us
for co-op classes in our house each week.
Our homeschool world
is AMAZING
BECAUSE
we are surrounded by such wonderful people!
I love the concentration of the kids faces as they try their hand at
"Target Practice" in the classroom!
Humanities Class
is filled with all sorts of surprises!
It was time for a little study of WEAPONS...
Bows and Arrows were high on the list!
Bows fashioned from rubber bands proved to be pretty fantastic!
Bobby pins make for some mighty fine arrows...
hard marshmallows were quite a blast
and dry beans could fly and hit harder than all the rest!
LOVE these KIDS
and LOVE our Co-Op!!!

#NaPhoPoMo Day 19...Word Count = Cupcakes
Our AMAZING CO-Op kids have been working on their
NaNoWriMo stories for the
Young Writers Program...
these two kiddos have reached
and exceeded the half way point in their stories.
THE REWARD ~ Chocolate Cupcakes!
WORD COUNT = Treats!
Happy, Happy Day for these two crazy kids!
You'd have thought it was an entire CHOCOLATE CAKE...
the other kids in class were feeling a little cheated
and a little inspired to finish...
Truly cracks me up that kids will write
thousands and thousands of words
for a simple chocolate cupcake ~ LOVE IT!
And I cannot wait to read the work they've produced.
Now, I need to get busy before they all pass me by!!!

#NaPhoPoMo Day 14...Math turned Limbo!
Little kids are truly the greatest!!!
They just know how to have FUN...
We were doing measurements all over the house during the Math co-op class I teach for the younger kiddos...
measuring everything from the span of their arms
to the height of a desk
to the width of a door
and the thickness of a book...
We made our way into the front room to do measurements of the height and width of the door,
which NATURALLY turned into a fascinating game of Limbo...
These kids can ROCK Limbo and Measuring!!!
Who says a measuring tape is only for measuring???
Leave it to a group of creative kiddos to come up with this!
What a fun day!
Day 14
As you can tell from my the facial expression of my friend, Marissa, we were mighty impressed at their flexibility...
if only I could still do such things! :)
Since I can't, I'll stand behind the camera and cheer 'em all on!!!

#NaPhoPoMo Day 8...I get by with a little help from my friends
DAY 8
Tonight was our MAN FEAST for DHSA,
our local Homeschool Organization...
It was our 3rd Annual "Feast".
See these two lovely ladies hanging out with me???
I LOVE them both to pieces!!!
We had sooooooo much fun today,
We cooked
and we decorated
and we ate chocolate
and we laughed
and we took goofy pictures together
and then we hung out together until almost midnight
then we decided we should all go back to being moms again....
Sure glad those special men in our lives support all our fun together!
Yes, life is good
and the saying is true...
I get by with a little help from my friends!
Love you girls!!!

A little "NaPhoPoMo" Fun... Day 1...A Child's Paradise
I started noticing these little posts coming up on FB the past couple of days and I was intrigued...
I wondered what in the world #NaPhoPoMo stood for
and what all the hype was about...
so I journeyed on over to here!
And I found something that was right up my alley...
National Photo Posting Month!
I'm usually pretty game for anything that sounds fun,
but this one had so much more than the simple element of *fun*.
After some contemplation,
I decided to join in so that I could truly "FOCUS" on the greatest things in life.
When my camera is in hand,
life slows down just a little...
I see things in a new light
I am captivated
Everything around me fades to the background
as my camera spotlights the exact moment my heart is in.
Life keeps me running.
It is a beautiful life,
just really full.
I seem to get lost in the motions of making it all happen
and fear that I am missing out on what matters most.
I am hopeful that NaPhoPoMo will give me the excuse to
"Slow down and smell the roses" , if you will...
There are days that I wonder
if I've done anything that was
TRULY
worthwhile, meaningful, or touching.
With an awareness and a focus,
I believe I can be more purposeful.
So...
here's to a month of "FOCUSING" on the beauty that surrounds me!
Day 1
My view as I look up
into the place my children see as
Paradise.
This beautiful tree is in my front yard and is a much valued retreat for my younger children.
The hours of fun they have climbing,
the time they spend relaxing and regrouping in their own little safe haven,
and the hours of joy they find rolling and jumping in the leaves of this wonderful tree
make it the perfect beginning
for a focus on the beautiful, yet simple, things of life.

Living a "Newly-Wed-Like" life FOREVER...
YES, it happens!!!
And here are some tips to make it happen in your "Happily Ever After"...
Last night I spent some time with one of my very favorite people in the world, Corrie!!!
It was a party night for her daughter...
BRIDAL SHOWER Time!
When my invitation arrived in the mail,
I was assigned a room ~
can you guess which room I received??
Yep, the BEDROOM!!!
Hmmm...
soooo many directions to go with this one...
I knew I wanted it to be good,
I knew I wanted it to be memorable,
I knew I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the beauty of marriage with her...
so,
I decided to combine it all into a
BIG Happy Package!!!

Here are the words that go along with all the little gifts inside the BIG Box ~
Dear Rachel ~
I want to share a few tips that can help you to
live a "Newly-Wed-Like" Life FOREVER --

1. A Treasure Box to help you remember to always "treasure" one another
and a perfect place to keep the treasured love letters, cards and special moments of your life as husband and wife.
(I found a box that I just loved...I have one that I keep all my "Sweet Stuff" from my Sweet Man in, so I just had to get one for her!)
2. Two Candles for your bedroom to help you remember how important it is to keep a flame alive in your marriage.
(Who doesn't love candles???
And the thing I love to tell others about love when they feel it is lost or gone...
I ask, "Was it ever there???"
If they can answer yes,
then it's repairable...
all they need do is rekindle that flame!
So, if you are finding yourself in that position, read on...these little tips will do the trick!)
3. Paris ~ Always share your dreams and together make them realities!
(This was a little trinket that had "Paris" on it...Rachel loves Paris so this was fitting for her)
4. Diamonds ~ There will be dull days and hard times in your marriage, these diamonds are here to remind you to focus on all the Shining Moments you have together!
(A little bag filled with "diamonds"...unfortunately for Rachel, I am not a rich person, so they were quite fake, but they sure do sparkle!)
5. Hugs & Kisses ~ Because a day should never pass that you don't share love and affection with one another.
(I wrapped a pretty red bow around the bags of Hershey's Hugs and Kisses...perfect!)
6. A Pillow ~ "Pillow Talk" each and every night will keep you close, remember to have that communication and never go to sleep angry...stay up until sunrise if necessary, but talk out your differences and end on a happy note with each other.
7. Throw in a little "Sugar and SPICE" every now and then..it's sure to bring a smile!
(Yes, I did....
I embarrassed both Rachel and her sweet Mom...
I had to do it!
I snuck in a little pair of "SPICY Undies",
okay, two pair...should have taken a photo...the cheeks were bright red on these sweet girls!)
8. A Blanket ~ because every day is a good day to snuggle up together!
And finally...
9. Do your very best to make every day your "Happily Ever After" and it will be!
(I gave her a little metal sign with these words...it was super cute!)
***Something to think about...***
Our spouses may never be "Perfect"...
there will be times they will disappoint us.
None of us are perfect,
but Happily Ever After is still possible!
How???
YOU be as perfectly in love as possible
and be perfectly willing to share that love at all times
and something magical will happen ~
your spouse will wish to be just as perfect as you are and
your marriage will become perfectly wonderful...
thus the "Happily Ever After"... Perfectly Beautiful!
What a lovely night for such a lovely girl!!!
Best wishes to you always, Rachel!

In Search of a Well-Balanced Life
Sustaining a comfortable balance while homeschooling is NOT easy, but it is possible!
I've had friends comment that they wish they could be more efficient . . .
my reply to that is,
“Being a mother isn't always efficient!
There will be good days,
there will be not-so-good days;
life will get in the way!
So, relax, hold on and keep smiling--you will make it!”
There is a lot required at our hands, and it can feel overwhelming and unconquerable at times.
We wonder how to keep it all together,
how to make sure the kids are getting all they need
(and deserve from us),
how to balance the school work and the house work,
how to keep the mountains of laundry to manageable small piles,
how to put healthy, nutritious meals on the table
THREE. Times. A. Day!
Also, how to be a great wife, a great mother, a great visiting teacher, a great friend . . .
and how to have any time at all for ourselves and for our sanity!
I want to share a couple of thoughts with you to help you achieve this balanced life we all desire.
As mothers, we spend our days running from the child most urgently in need
to the next most-urgent event,
and on to the next
and the next
and the next . . .
In the midst of all the craziness, we tend to lose sight of the big picture.
It’s hard to maintain your balance when you have tunnel vision.
Widen your focus;
keep your eyes and heart open to what is most precious,
and you will be living that
Well-Balanced, Intentional Life
that we all want,
but that looks different for each of us!
A couple of thoughts that I always keep tucked in the back of my mind to keep me focused and on the right track are:
~Mothering must come before Math
and LOVE will always be more important than Language Arts.
~In the end, what will matter most, will be the relationships you have with your children . . .
their secular education will not be your first concern.
~ No child ever died because they couldn’t find clean socks or underwear!
We wish only the best for our kids;
because of that we add in various activities and obligations to our daily routine.
While this is not a negative necessarily, if we choose to add too many things to our plate, the load begins to feel burdensome and our attitudes may wind up reflecting a touch of negativity. We start feeling a little out of whack and long for a day away or a week away from the challenges of an overwhelming routine.
This feeling of “needing a vacation” is a red flag for me;
it is my first “a-ha moment” indicating that I am hitting critical mass and need time to reassess and restructure to find balance.
When planning all those amazing and educational activities for your kids, don’t forget about leaving time to take care of you and your relationships.
We have the tendency to get so caught up in wanting to provide the very best for our kids that we suffer personally.
How do we create change?
How do we find and maintain balance in our lives?
Grab a piece of paper, get a cup of tea, and sit for a spell . . . we've got some work to do.
If you could make your life look any way you want it to,
what would it look like?
What things would you want to include?
Start at the end by writing your goals,
and then figure out what you can do right now to start on the path that will end with you achieving them.
Imagine it,
dream it;
then write it and even draw it!
It is all part of the process to help you live it!
Start that “Wish List” for your life . . .
Do you wish for more time (real, enjoyable time, hanging-out-time) with your kids?
Do you wish for more time with your spouse?
With your friends?
With yourself?
Do you wish for time to do a project or two?
What would those projects be?
Do you wish to read a certain book?
Do you wish to go explore and uncover the wonders that surround you?
Do you wish to start a new business?
Do you wish for time to read your scriptures each day?
Do you wish to take a yoga class?
Do you wish to teach classes?
Jot it all down . . .
By jotting down our wishes,
we create a list we can prioritize and from that--make a plan.
Intentional Planning time is a fabulous thing to do . . .
as you look at your wish list,
you can dictate what you do each day,
so go for it . . . make it amazing!
Use this list of priorities over and over—
change it,
add to it,
but never give up on it.
It is part of what restores peace and balance to your mind and your heart.
We all have our “Own Way” of how this will look . . . here’s a suggestion for you if you are struggling with creating your own:
Consider breaking your day into blocks of time ~
Early mornings /Late Morning to early afternoons /Afternoons / Evenings
Consider plugging in one or two priorities from the wish list you created into each space
. . . STOP . . .
I said to plug in ONE or TWO, only!
Be good to yourself!
Early morning might be a nice time for you to fill your own cup; it might be time for a little relationship building one-on-one with a certain child who needs your undivided attention, or it might be time for planning and preparing for the day.
Late mornings to early afternoons will likely include schooling your kiddos;
remember to be gentle on yourself and don’t add in 5 other things during this time.
Be PRESENT IN HEART AND MIND with your kids during their time.
I promise the time will be well spent, and you will all walk away feeling pleasantly happy.
Your Afternoons might include a few household chores and dinner prep,
maybe some time for playing with your kids;
(Make your play time with them memorable...
BE CRAZY...
LOVE EVERY MOMENT...
SHOW THEM BEING WITH THEM MAKES YOU SMILE!)

or it may be the time for running kids to lessons or activities, or a brisk walk in the fresh air.
Evenings might be the perfect time for relationship building,
time to work on things your heart needs,
and maybe a little blogging time or reading time.
These blocks of time DO NOT have to stay the same each day . . .
and these are just ideas for how to create a little balance in your life.
I think you’ll find that if you take the steps to set some priorities and intentionally make room for them in your life, you will be more peaceful and less frazzled in this ever-busy life we are all living.
Be willing to let things go,
and trust yourself.
Part of creating a balance, is not trying to keep everything in the air at once.
During our DHSA Homeschool Mothers' Meeting for October, I talked with all the sweet moms about what is on their plate, what load are they responsible for...
we wrote them down on balloons
~ enough to fill the room
and then together we tried to keep them all in the air...
I finally asked them to just let them go
BE willing to let some things drop...
with the exception of
one
that I continued to hold in the air...
The most important one we must consistently keep going
and be so careful to be mindful of is the "ME" balloon...
our families are counting on us,
we keep the balance and the focus for our families,
so we must remember to take care of ourselves first
so that we are able to give and keep giving and keep giving...
Wishing you a beautifully balanced life!
((((Hugs)))))

Summer Fun with your Kiddos!!!
YOU MADE IT!!!
The “Official” school year has come to a
close…
And SUMMER is upon us!
This month, I’d like to give you a short list (maybe a long one, we’ll see!)
of fun ideas to do with your kiddos over the
warm summer months.
It’s definitely time
to give yourself a little break and enjoy those kiddos you’ve been blessed
with!!!
As soon as I hit "Publish", I'm outta here with my little clan...
off to the park with a picnic basket in hand, a blanket and a book to read aloud. We'll search out the greatest looking tree and plant ourselves under it...read for a bit and then explore for a few. LOVE that summer is here!!!
Sunshine is such a happy thing!
And on with the list...
(Warning: This will make you just want to play all day and never sneak in a moment of work)
Create amazing artwork on your driveway with
sidewalk chalk
Laugh as much as possible
Head to the park with a Frisbee and a watermelon
Run through the sprinklers
Grab your sidewalk chalk and enjoy a game of
sidewalk Tic-Tac-Toe or Hang Man and don't forget to create your best HoP-ScoTch game...your kids will love to see you hoppin' with them!
Build a blanket fort
Visit the zoo
Get on that scooter and head out with your kiddos
Go on a hike
Build something together
Hit the drive-in movie, take sacks of hot
popcorn and a blanket or two
Go for a ride in the car, windows down, hair
blowing, music turned way up!
Feed the ducks
Go fishing
Play marbles on your porch
Blow bubbles
Go out and play in the rain, then head in for
a day of puzzles
Enjoy a game of croquet or soccer in your yard
Take nature walks and really look for the
beauty and wonder, taking time to point it out
Watch the sunset
Do a little star-gazing
Provide some water balloons and let the fun
begin!
Dig in the dirt
Go to a lake, find a dock, head to the end and
lay down looking into the water, talk about everything you see
Plant a garden and spend time there together
Have a hula-hooping contest
Have a tea party
Jump on the trampoline (go potty first,
Momma!)
Lay under the trees and listen to the wind
blowing through the leaves
Have a bug exploration day
Enjoy a game of capture the flag
Build a lemonade stand and hang out with your
kiddos sippin’ on lemonade
Go bird watching
Build a firepit and use it as often as
possible, for extra smiles, be sure to have a few marshmallows and a stick or
two
Plant HUGE sunflowers and measure their
heights
Find a creek and splash around in it
Take long walks in the evening
Make ice cream cones
Search for the wonders that surround you
Climb in your kids “fort” and hang out with
them
Hit the pool…go ahead, put on your swimsuit
and get in with them, it’ll be okay!
Go camping in your backyard
Climb that tree with your kids
Play a game of hide and seek
Find a hill and roll down it together
Hit the swing sets and see how high you can go
Kiss those sweet kiddos of yours each night
and hug them as tight as you can every chance you get!
Wishing you each a magical summer with your
families!
And we're off...
so many FUN things to do!!!

Beauty is not only found in THIN
I've pondered whether or not to post my thoughts about the recent hype surrounding Mike Jeffries.
For those of you who may be lucky enough to not have the foggiest idea who I am referring to, please allow me to enlighten you.
This not-so-lovely man
is the CEO of Abercrombie-Fitch ~
a clothing store that I NEVER even consider patronizing,
especially if my kids are in tow.
Just don't need my girls checking out the hard-bodies without shirts
and I really don't want my boys seeing mostly naked girls hanging all over the walls...
so unnecessary!
I have found the advertisements and the posters that hang outside their stores,
well,
how do I put this in a gentle way???
Never mind,
can't find a gentle way to refer to
the CRAP that is shown to any and all that walk past!
REALLY???
Have we no regard for leaving something to the imagination when looking at the body of another person?
I have been able to just disregard their approach to marketing...
doesn't suit me and that's okay.
I am not the end-all of what is appropriate or inappropriate....
I can turn my head,
I can lead my kidlets down a different aisle of the mall in an effort to miss their store entirely,
I don't have to shop where I don't wish to...
so that has been that...
no biggie.
(Please don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a beautiful hard body just as much as anyone else... I see where the washboard belly is nice and appealing to the eye, but I just really don't need it shoved in my face or the faces of my kiddos!)
I have felt no need to make a big deal out of what they deem necessary to sell their clothing line ~ even if I think they are totally whacked!!!
BUT
when it comes to his (Mike Jeffries) rude, insulting comments toward those who can't squeeze their voluptuous, beautiful bodies into a size 0 pant size, I get a tad fired up.
Speaking of a size 0...
what is zero???
Last time I checked, ZERO is NOTHING!!!
And to make it even a little better ~ how about you squeeze those little buns into a size 00...
what the heck?
I'm guessing a size 00 must equal a DOUBLE NOTHING!!!
All I can really suggest to these gals who can fit into a NOthing or a DOUBLE NOthing is watch yourselves and make certain you are never caught in a windstorm, I don't think you'd fare very well!!! And if you find yourself in such a situation, I might suggest grabbing for the nearest tree and hanging on for dear life!
I have never squeezed my body,
not on my very best day,
into a size 0...
and I would like to add I would HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE TO DO SO!!!
And guess what else???
I don't believe that I, or anyone else, have to be that thin to qualify as beautiful.
When you can't even purchase anything larger than a size 10 in this store, because anything above a size 10 is considered FAT CHICK STATUS...
well, let me say this as nicely as I can possibly muster up...
"Mike Jeffries, you, sir, can go suck rocks!!!"
Just so ya know...if I wanted to get a pair of those pants on this voluptuous body of mine, I COULD DO IT, size 10 is no big deal!
Trust me, I am a pro when it comes to laying down on the bed, sucking it in and zipping up...breathing is way overrated!
Remember, I was a teenager in the 80's and we learned how to paint those hummers on!!! The tighter, the better! (wink, wink!)
This stinky excuse for a man just makes me sad...
actually what makes me sad is that girls and women fall for this...they believe they are not good enough, or beautiful enough, or popular enough...fill in the "_______" enough for yourself ~ I'm sure you get the picture I'm attempting to paint.
Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes...even if men like him disagree.
Wish I could give credit for the little piece of artwork...
but I don't know who to give credit to (can't read the signature)
...so if this came from you ~ NICE WORK! LOVE IT!!!
Had I ever had the desire to shop in this store, the following statement would forever change my mind:
A&F's aggressive pursuit of the preppy, highly-sexed 18- to 22-year-old demographic is largely down to its 68-year-old CEO, who explained his strategy to Salon in 2006. “That's why we hire good-looking people in our stores,” Jeffries said. “Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don't market to anyone other than that.” He went on: “In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don't belong [in our clothes], and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.”
Just gotta say this...can't even help myself...
He is just a Big Old Stinkin' Pig!!!
Need to check it out for yourself???
Here are a couple articles to give you the scoop.
One article, Abercromie-Fitch CEO explains why he hates fat chicks along with a second article, Not available in XL, in which Jeffries is accused of only wanting thin and beautiful people; are two example of who this man is and what this store represents.
WARNING: There is a photo that you may not love, so make sure your kiddos are not standing near as you open it up.
Done with my little rant...
sometimes we just have to stand up for what we believe...
As the momma of many children, I want my girls to know that their beauty is not dependent on a SIZE and for my boys, I want them to be able to SEE girls for who they are, again, not because they are some size that another has said warrants being the "cool, popular or beautiful"...
Mike Jeffries, it is time to begin to act as an adult...
try to see the beauty in others...
I believe you will find that life is a beautiful place to be when you find your way out of that shallow place you choose to exist in.
Good-night world!!!
